FAQ - Installation
It looks like the extra fitting makes the light hang lower. Will it still look nice in, and fit with any lampshade? And will my lights hang lower making me walk into them?
The bulb is held at exactly the same height as your current fittings -it even uses the original electrical contacts. These means the bulb will fit perfectly and look just the same with your lampshade.
The pictures are all of bayonet fittings, does it work with screw type too?
There are three principle fittings in use around the world. A different magnetic fitting is designed to fit each type.
Bayonet B22 is common in UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and India
Edison Screw E26 is used in USA and Japan.
Edison Screw E27 is used throughout Europe.
Bayonet fittings are shown rather than Edison Screw simply because we are at a sensitive stage in the patent process with the Edison Screw and our Bayonet patent was published in February 2007 so is public domain.
Will it work with any wattage bulb?
Yes, the product will support the full range of tungsten incandescent and compact fluorescent energy saving bulbs.
How does it work with screw in lampshades? Can you make those magnetic too?
Lampshades are retained in the same way, but by a threaded ring, supplied with the magnetic fitting.
Do I re-use the same fitting for every bulb? What if I throw away the bottom part with the bulb, will I be able to buy that part separately?
It is intended that the cap which attaches to the bulb is reused to minimise waste. However spare caps will be available in case they are lost, and to apply to spare bulbs so they are ready before they are needed.
Is it safe to use this fitting with outside lights?
Again I will need to look at safety regulations in order to be accurate. Please bear with me.
