FAQ - Technical
Will I get an electrical shock when I change the bulb?
The fittings are safer than current designs. This is because as you reach up with the bulb, your hand should not reach the height of the electric contacts. With current designs a second hand has to reach above the height of the contacts to stop the fitting from twisting as you screw in the bulb.
Will the bulb fall out if there's a power-cut?
The fitting uses neodymium permanent magnets to retain the bulb, rather than an electromagnet. It is completely independent from mains electricity, so if there is a loss of power the bulbs will be held safely in the fitting.
How long will the product last? Will the magnets weaken over time?
The product will last for the life of the standard lamp-holder it is attached to.
Are the magnets strong enough to affect things like audio or video tapes or credit
cards? - we're told to keep these away from magnets.
The magnets need to be powerful to hold the light bulb safely. As such, bringing sensitive magnetic devices in close proximity with the light fitting is not recommended. Store credit cards and magnetic tape at a safe distance.
